Humble beginnings...

With deep roots in South Louisiana, Generations Realty Group has a history as colorful and unique as the region itself. It all began in 1956 when George Pivach, Jr. (the son of Croatian immigrants) and his wife Frances (a Croatian immigrant herself) started a small business venture known as Pivach Agency in their rural hometown of Triumph, Louisiana. At first, the company specialized in insurance sales, but seeing a need in their community, the Pivachs quickly added real estate services to their business model. George and Frances didn’t know it then, but more than six decades later, the legacy started by Pivach Agency would become the foundation of Generations Realty Group.

Overcoming adversity...

Soon after the establishment of Pivach Agency, the young entrepreneurs pursued their next endeavor and purchased a small winery from their family. The Pivach Winery, as it was locally known, had been founded in the 1930’s by George’s parents. The Pivach family was esteemed for growing and selling citrus in the community and surrounding areas, and they had been making orange wine from the fruit that was too ripe or too blemished to sell. George and Frances had opened Pivach Agency adjacent to the winery, so the real estate acquisition was strategic for them. For several years, their businesses experienced tremendous growth, and the ambitious couple made a name for themselves in the community. Then, in 1962, George and Frances experienced a major setback. An explosion and fire in the winery not only destroyed their livelihood, but also severely injured Frances in the process. Never the type to feel sorry for themselves, George and Frances picked up the pieces of their shattered business, determined to rebuild and heal.

The power of perseverance...

Although the explosion would mark the end of the Pivach Winery, slowly but surely, Pivach Agency was revived and re-built. After a challenging recovery, the company experienced another period of growth and expanded to additional locations in Port Sulphur, LA and Belle Chasse, LA. For George and Frances, life was good; business was booming, and their family was growing. However, their second major setback came in August 1969 when Hurricane Camille completely devastated lower Plaquemines Parish and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, destroying the Pivach Agency office in Triumph, as well as the Pivachs' own home. This was their second life-altering crisis within a decade, but proving that no challenge is too large to overcome with enough hard work and dedication, George and Frances (at this point, also parents to 4 children) once again set out to rebuild. Defying the odds, Pivach Agency was revived, stronger than ever; the perfect example of perseverance in spite of all obstacles.

A lasting legacy...

After the challenges of an unfavorable decade, the 1970's and 1980's were much more agreeable to the Pivachs. In 1981, Diana Pivach Alfortish, daughter of George and Frances, joined the company as an insurance sales agent. Diana obtained her real estate salesperson license in 1985, and became a licensed real estate broker in 1990. In 2003, Pivach Agency was purchased by Diana and her husband, Kevin Alfortish. Having already divested the company’s insurance portfolio to focus only on real estate, Diana and Kevin re-branded the company as Pivach Real Estate, LLC in 2009. In 2017, Diana and Kevin's daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alfortish Cheramie and Cory Cheramie, left their corporate finance careers to join Pivach Real Estate as real estate agents. A year later, in 2018, the four of them purchased a RE/MAX franchise and re-branded the company as RE/MAX Generations. After five years of learning and growing with a national brand, Cory and Mary decided to take their business back to its roots as an independent brokerage. Thus, Generations Realty Group was founded in 2023. Cory and Mary have embraced and built upon the legacy that was started more than six decades ago.
